John McCain statement refutes claims that "enhanced interrogation techniques" helped find Osama bin Laden

May 13, 2011 12:21pm
I disagree with most of John McCain's politics. But his Senate floor statement on how he is opposed to torture and how he disputes claims that "enhanced interrogation techniques," which amounts to torture, led to finding Osama bin Laden is an admirable statement and deserves reading in full.
It is is a complete refutal of those who believe the so-called enhanced interrogation techniques used by the previous administration were in any way useful.

bin Laden's body dumped in the sea ビンラーディン遺体は海へ投棄、DNA確認後 (Yomiuri Shinbun)

May 2, 2011 10:07pm
I think the Yomiuri Shinbun headline is more accurate than the way they are describing it in English, where they are saying Osama bin Laden was "buried at sea."

In Japanese the headline reads:

ビンラーディン遺体は海へ投棄、DNA確認後

Which translates as "bin Laden's body dumped in the sea after DNA confirmation."

I like the Japanese more forthright way of putting it.

Osama bin Laden's death

May 2, 2011 1:30pm
There's live streaming video of huge crowds outside the White House and in Times Square cheering the news of bin Laden's death. I usually don't like the mood of cheering death, but I have to admit to feeling moved by the scenes.

I am very curious now. U.S. forces killed him where he was hiding out in a mansion in the suburbs of Islamabad, Pakistan. Does this mean Pakistan had been protecting him?
